The McNess Pudding and Pie Mixes were first introduced in 1919. For years they were staples in kitchen pantries across the country. The taste was so delicious that restaurants would use the same mixes to create their pies.

After an absence of almost twenty years and after many, many customer requests, we’ve brought the dessert mixes back.

These are not instant mixes. They are cooked over the stove the old-fashioned way. You need to add your own sugar (or sugar substitute) to the mix. For pies, we recommend adding butter and egg yolks to create a richer base. (See recipe on the side of carton.)

Lemon Dessert Mix

The original formula from earlier years famously had a lemon oil capsule that was added to the mix during cooking. However, we were unable to duplicate this process in a reasonable manner, so we decided the best solution was to add pure lemon oil right into the mix! As soon as you open the can you can smell the lemon! And of course, that natural flavoring can’t be beat. Adjust the sugar as desired.

Makes four 9” pies or 24 servings of pudding.

Ingredients: Corn Starch, Dextrose, Citric Acid, Salt, Lemon Oil, Bright Yellow Food Color.

Gluten-Free

Also available in Chocolate.

    McNess NEW Dessert Mixes

Posted by Charlie Rivenbark on Jan 11th 2025

A Nostalgic Delight: McNess Dessert Mixes Are Back! I can’t express how thrilled I am that McNess has brought back their beloved dessert mixes! These were a staple in my family’s kitchen for generations—my mother, grandmother, and aunts all swore by them, and their pies were legendary. When I heard they were reintroducing the Cocoanut, Lemon, and Chocolate Dessert Mixes, I immediately ordered all three. And let me tell you—they did not disappoint! From the first bite, I was transported back to those family gatherings where every dessert was a masterpiece. The flavors are just as rich and authentic as I remember. The Cocoanut mix is perfectly creamy with that classic tropical twist, the Lemon is tangy and bright, and the Chocolate is indulgently rich and smooth. Thank you, McNess, for preserving this delicious piece of culinary history and bringing it back to life. These mixes are now a cherished addition to my pantry, and I can’t wait to share them with the next generation of my family. If you’re looking for unbeatable flavor and a touch of nostalgia, these dessert mixes are a must-have!

Tastes just like the pie my mom made 70 years ago with a similar mix she bought from the Raleigh salesman who came to our house

The pudding tasted fine and lemony but it turned out more like jello not creamy
